INAUGURAL NORTHERN BRANCH SHOW 2013

The Northern branch of the ZSA held their inaugural Northern branch show at the recent Westmorland Show Kendal. A strong number of forty three sheep were forward from nine exhibitors.

The judge Mr Philip Caunter, Totnes, Devon had a tough time judging especially in the female classes with no fewer than fifteen gimmer shearlings being brought forward. His eventual Champion was Caroline Anderson’s ewe lamb Wallridge Moor Ariat who is a half-sister to the previous Carlisle sale Champion’s Winnie and Tameka. The lamb was sired by Wallridge Moor Tatonka a homebred ram and out of a bought in dam.

Reserve Champion went to Tom and Gillian Blamire, Whinnow 0059W sired by a Berrington tup and out of a Skyhigh dam. The best Exhibitor bred and opposite sex to the Champion went to Wallridge Moor Whistler who was sired by Dutch import tup Walter and out of a homebred ewe Ruby. For other results see the Westmorland Show report.

It is hoped to repeat the show next year and to expand on its success thanks go to Westmorland show for their cooperation and patience. Due to the wedding of the Northern Branch organiser in mid-October and also the poor turnout at the March meeting we have decided not to hold a winter meeting this year. We will of course have a Spring meeting in March to arrange 2014’s events.
