CARLISLE SALE REPORT

                            Carlisle Sale  29th August, 2008.

The ZSA sale at Carlisle proved yet again very popular with a catalogued entry of 449. Due to BT restrictions and some consignments not being present there were about 80 sheep not forward on sale day.

However the remainder sold very well with 244 females sold out of 270 and 71 males out of 90 in the M.V. section and 16 out of 21 sold in the non M.V. section.

It was pleasing to see so many sheep forward for the show, giving Martin Preston quite a busy morning to say the least!

The results of the show are as follows :-

The reserve champion ewe from James Carlile sold at 750gns to J. Mackie of Strathaven who is starting a new flock. The top priced shearling female was presented by Molly Campbell and made 1000gns, again selling to J. Mackie, who also purchased another 10 females on the day. The top priced ewe lamb came from the consignment of Olwen Hughes-Owen who made 1000gns selling to R. Heigh for his Brookdene flock.

The better quality rams were keenly sought after with senior rams selling to 500gns to G. Ramage from Charles Scott. The supreme champion was presented by John Rowlands and sold for 900gns to J. Mackie as his new stock ram.

Ram lambs were a little more variable in quality and this was reflected in the prices. However good quality stock sold extremely well with 6 ram lambs making 500gns or more and 2 lambs from Charles Scotts East Middle consignment making 1100gns each to R.Heigh of Bentham and S.Watson of Selkirk.
