WORCESTER SALE REPORT

TOP PRICE EWE LAMB SELLS FOR 1140GNS

Worcester was again the venue for the annual Zwartbles Sheep Association sale where trade was strong and consistent seeing 126, of the 128 sheep forward, being sold, with many new buyers present.

Judge, Mr Peter Coombs, found his champion female in Mr Short’s consignment of shearlings; she sold for 380gns which was the best price in the shearling females. His champion male went to a shearling ram from Mr & Mrs Caunter who had travelled up from Cornwall; it went on to sell for 220gns.

The sale however was topped by other vendors. The Beech Hay flock owned by Mrs Vicky Grinnall realised 1140gns with their reserve female champion. This ewe lamb sold, after some stiff bidding competition, to a partnership of Mr Mathew Simpson (flock 265) and Mr John Shepherd from Scotland. Vicky Grinnall’s pen also went on to make 570gns for a ewe lamb to Mr Heigh, (flock 305) of Lancaster and 400gns & 405gns, for two other ewe lambs.

Top of the males was a strong ram lamb from Miss Poppy Godwin (flock 294); sired by a Beech Hay bred ram, this lengthy ram sold for 570gns to Mr V Manning. The few nonMV sheep forward realised good prices for their vendors.

In all, an excellent sale for buyers and vendors. Proof that demand for the breed is still growing and that good animals make good money.
