SCOTTISH OPEN DAY 2014

The Scottish Club held their Annual Open Day on 6th July at Beauly, Ross and Cromarty, home of the Hedgefield Flock, by kind permission of Jim, Linda and Taylor Mair.

The day commenced with an informative and comical talk from Jim Mair on their introduction to the Zwartbles Breed and the development of the Hedgefield Flock through to their Championship win at the Royal Highland Show 2013.

This was followed by : a Stock-judging Competition, kindly judged by Master Judge Mr Rod MacKenzie, on some classes of Zwartbles and one of Texels kindly loaned by Mr John Peterkin. The winner here was Mr John Pirie of the Chapelpark Flock.

  •  A demonstration of a sheep shower by Mr Robbie McHardy
  •  A talk on Alpacas by John Smith and Carol Christian
  •  A talk on wool and wool blending by Catherine Slater.

The day was concluded with a walk through the sheep and a working demonstration of some Vintage Tractors and a Vintage Car ably displayed by Jim and Taylor.

We are truly indebted to all the  afore mentioned people and to Linda and friends for serving us all a lovely lunch and especially to the Mair Family for organising such a varied and enjoyable day.
