Worcester Market Sale Report

Sale Report for Worcester Market on August 12, 2017

Worcester
Zwartbles to 2000gn

The early sale at Worcester this year attracted a large crowd of buyers seemingly keen to buy tups for their flocks.

Bucking the trend was the sale topper, a ewe lamb, Lot 378, Beech Hay Elegance, consigned by Rob & Vicky Grinnall, who stood 6th in her show class, sold for 2000gns to M-J Cornish, Buckfastleigh, Devon. Second highest price of 1500gns was reached for Lot 274, the Female and Overall Reserve Champion, Castle Hill Dottie, a shearling ewe sold by Sam Inns and going to join the Moorhall Flock of Mr Brookhouse, Warwickshire. Making 820gns was Lot 250 Hedgefield Denver, another shearling ewe, making the long journey from Invernessshire with breeder Jim Mair and bought by G T Booth, Keighley. Rounding off a good day for the girls was Lot 384, Greenhill Ellie, consigned by Martin & Sophie Preston, who took Reserve Female Champion and selling for 800gns to Jason Kestell’s Rockford Flock, Cornwall.

Leading the boys was Lot 227, Dulas Extra Strong, who, whilst only taking second place in the ram lamb class, went on to take Male and Overall Champion and make 920gns for his breeders Mr J & Mrs C Evans. He has gone to join Heather Hughes’ Conwy flock, Wales. 2 more males, this time both shearling rams, also made 800gns – Lot 208, Hedgefield Dreadnot, joining his flock mate in Keighley, and Lot 211, Castle Hill Dynamite, making the trip to Somerset and joining the Westway flock of A Gillard.

Whilst the girls topped the prices, the ram lamb trade in particular was strong with an average of £418 across them, and all but 1
shearling ram finding new homes, to an average of £481.

Averages:

10 Shearling Rams £481.95

6 Ram Lambs £418.25

3 Aged Ewes £175

51 Shearling Ewes £276.70

39 Ewe Lambs £239.07
