Welshpool Market Sale Report

Sale Report for Welshpool Market on September 21, 2019

Sparkling Trade at Welshpool

A packed ringside and a strong entry of very good sheep made the 2019 Welshpool sale a success. This year, for the first time, a male and a female shared the spot as sale toppers – 580gns was paid twice, once for the first placed ram lamb, lot 508 Henblas Gladiator, consigned by Miss AG Bullen, and again for lot 536, Otterden Give Me More, brought out by Miss G Shrubsall, first placed ewe lamb and overall Show Champion. C Hepworth and S & S Murray were the respective buyers.

Next highest price of 460gns was paid for lot 517, Dash Wood Fleurette, a shearling ewe consigned by Mrs J McBean and bought by HM Hughes, closely followed at 440gns by the Reserve Champion, lot 519, another Dash Wood girl, Flora, and going home with L Pryor, making it yet another very good sale for their breeder, also taking the top 3 placings in the show.

Only 1 senior ram was forward, Pen Llyn Edward but he made a respectable 200gns for breeder Mr WJ Williams, purchased by S & S Murray. He won the Aged/Shearling Ram class. Matching him in price was the shearling ram lot 502, Pen Llyn Flint Lock, and again going home with S & S Murray.

Ram lambs next and after the sale topper, the next highest price of 280gns was paid for the second placed lot 507, Pen Llyn Guardsman, by R Edwards.

A very strong entry of shearling ewes came next, with lot 518, Dash Wood Fortune making 400gns and joining her stablemate Flora with L Pryor. Next top at 360gns was lot 528, Pen Llyn Festive, and going home with C Anderson.

A lovely steady trade of ewe lambs completed the sale with G & L Owen taking second and third highest prices in this section, 280gns and 230gns, lots 557 (2nd placed ewe lamb) & 558, Cernyw Gwenlli and Cernwy Grug respectively. WE Lewis and J Griffiths were the buyers.

Grateful thanks must go to Angharad Francis of the Pistyll Flock for judging the show, and to Elaine Curran and Anne Robinson for inspecting and stewarding.
