Welshpool Market Sale Report

Sale Report for Welshpool Market on September 22, 2018

The Girls Bring It Home (again!) at Welshpool

A repeat of last year at Welshpool today when a female topped the sale, and like last year’s sale topper from Scotland, Lot 523, Jane McBean’s Dash Wood Exchequer made another long journey, this time from Oxfordshire. This is also the second time in 3 years that Dash Wood have taken the top price at Welshpool, and the first time they have topped both the female and male sections. She stood second in the shearling ewe class and sold for 380gns to G Williams, Caernarvon. Overall Show Champion, Lot 516, Checkley Emma took second top price in this section. Brought down from Crewe by her breeders C & K Weaver, she made 300gns and has joined Exchequer with G Williams.

Second top price at the sale, 360gns, and heading the ewe lambs was Lot 553 Cernyw Fine Line, winner of her show class and Reserve Overall Champion. She was consigned by breeders G & L Owen and joins K Pugh, Tywyn. Second top price in this section was another Cernyw lamb, Lot 556 Cernyw Falmai, making 310gns and a long, long journey home with G Shrubshall to Kent. Stablemate lot 555 Cernyw Fizz shared the trailer back to Kent, reaching 290gns, and rounding off nicely a very good sale for the Owens.

2 senior ewes were forward, both Pistyll bred but owned by Master T Jones, both making 180gns and both bought by P Yeomans, Derbyshire.

Clearance of males was very disappointing – only 1 senior ram forward, lot 501 Ridgeway Digger, but he made the trip worthwhile for his breeders BH & DC Roberts, by winning the Senior/Shearling Ram class. He was bought for 180gns by CD Blakeman, Carmarthen. None of the shearling rams found new flocks, neither did most of the ram lambs, the only exception being lot 510, Dash Wood Formidable. He stood second in the show and made 250gns, going home with LB & CE Davies, Newtown.

Many thanks must go to Giles Sharp, Blencarn Flock, for making the trip down from Penrith to judge, and to Joan Rowlands and Anne Robinson for inspecting, scribing and ensuring smooth running of the sale

1 Senior Ram 180gns

1 Ram Lamb 250gns

2 Senior Ewes 180gns
